Situated within the boundaries of three Minnesota cities East Bethel, Ham Lake and Columbus, Coon Lake has long been a recreational oasis for fishing, boating, swimming and picnicking. Chronicles of Coon Lake is designed to provide history, not only on its formation, but stories of those who settled on Coon Lake, building their lives and their businesses. Those stories are augmented by the memories of the relatives of those early settlers as well.

The book highlights the uniqueness of the lake with its miniature steam train engines, its steamboat Nonpareil, its pirate ship, the Coon Raider and many other watercraft created by its residents. Resorts have added to Coon Lake’s history and uniqueness, despite losing some along the way. Old cabins used by the lake residents have a story of their own to tell.

Not to be forgotten are those organizations formed over the years to support and maintain the lake as an asset to the communities, Anoka county and the state of Minnesota. Their work as described ensures the health of the lake for years to come. Chronicles of Coon Lake preserves in one coffee table book many of the stories passed down from one generation to the next.
